Jenn - registered clinical counsellor
Most importantly, I have a passion and great respect for the uniqueness and individuality of each client. I trust in your ability to heal and I am honoured to be a witness and guide in this process - the real work occurs within you. I have a gentle nature and have been told I have a very calming energy. I believe humour belongs in the therapy room and the process should be lighthearted, as well as serious. I am inclusive, sex-positive, and believe in body diversity. I offer a welcoming and safe space for all sexual orientations, gender identities, and body types. I am also polyamory/non-monogamy affirming/informed.
I hold a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have completed additional training in treating post-traumatic stress and ADHD, and am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional - Level II (complex trauma) and a Certified ADHD Clinical Services Provider.
I started out in pharmacy and was a Registered Pharmacist for over 15 years. I was always more drawn to mental health treatment and found my relationships with those patients to be the most rewarding aspect of my job. The medical model is limited with respect to mental health - while diagnoses and medication have their role, I know there is so much more to psychological well-being and so I pursued my interest in counselling.
My dog Max is also excited to work with you! He joins me in the therapy room by request : )
Tyra - counselling student
Hello fellow journeyer of life! I am a Master’s level student counsellor. My approaches and special areas of practice include Somatic (body-based) Therapy, Existential (meaning making) Therapy, and working with people who have verbal and physical disabilities (I have lived experience with a disability). My counselling capacity is not limited to the above - I offer a listening ear to learn about your unique lived experiences and will help you find wisdom in your choices.
I also have additional training in Equine Facilitated Wellness and a background in training and working with animals. Recognizing animals’ wisdom and ability to recover and regulate after traumatic experiences, I know that we as humans have the same unique ability to heal using our present focus and awareness of our gut feelings. My Somatic “bottom-up” approach aids clients in connecting with their human senses to better receive the world around them and perceive reality clearly. Once we regulate our nervous system, we can relate to each other and the world, and then we can finally reason through challenges.
I want you to leave our meaningful conversations feeling more regulated than when you arrived. When your nervous system is regulated you can make healthy decisions from a position of physical peace and mental clarity. Your story is bigger than what has happened to you and it would be an honor to guide you in trusting yourself to write your new chapters of life!
